Galleries are now centered around Early American Art with a Philadelphia focus, paying close attention to the contributions of Black, Latin American, and Indigenous artists at the time. Dietrich II Galleries give more room for modern and contemporary art at the museum. This expansion gave more room “for art and for people,” just as Gehry said was his goal. Gehry ultimately added 90,000 square feet to the building, and redesignated 20,000 square feet to include offices, a restaurant, and storage. Groups of peers enjoy music in Gehry's new Williams Forum, by Alfredo Practicò. “That’s exactly what we needed in a building as big and as complicated as ours.” “He knows the way buildings work and how to organize sequences of spaces,” says museum director Timothy Rub. Theatrically curved, pristine limestone staircases with bronze railings lead visitors down to the 40–foot–high space, connecting the primary entrance and central staircases-thereby improving the museum’s flow. During the gala, mask–clad students danced to the Top 40 hits booming out of the DJ’s speakers, which echoed around the massive space. Perhaps the most monumental change by Gehry was the Williams Forum, which is a brand new, grand–scale installation area that took the place of the old auditorium. It leads to a recently updated area called the South Hall which now houses a variety of sculptures. The corridor also has new Guastavino tiles decorating its vaults as well as improved infrastructure including pipes and cables. The reopening was part of Gehry’s effort to highlight the history of the space, creatively bringing the past back into the present and reviving a centuries–old experience for museum–goers. Peers appreciate the newly reopened Vaulted Walkway, by Alfredo Practicò.įurthermore, after nearly 50 years of closure, the 640–foot–long Vaulted Walkway was restored and updated-allowing visitors to view the museum from a new angle by wandering around its perimeter. Returning to a small town in southern Minnesota, just like the original architects Horace Trumbauer and Julian Abele did in the early 20th century, Gehry sourced a rare type of golden limestone called Kasota stone for the design. Both were intended to guide visitors as they weave through the museum halls, and to give the space a sparkling, uplifting glow. "The goal in all of our work at the Philadelphia Museum of Art has been to let the museum guide our hand," says Gehry.Īs for the museum’s transformation, the stone walls throughout the building were deep cleaned and new LED lights were installed into the vaulted ceilings. Frank Gehry’s boundary–pushing architectural designs are likely what earned him awards like the Pritzker Prize yet for this undertaking, called the Core Project, he focused more on improving the existing structure and design rather than redoing it. Much like how the gala honors a long–standing tradition at Penn, the $233 million renovation and extension of the Beaux–Artes style museum was intended to honor and highlight the building’s historic originality. “We appreciate that Penn went to extraordinary lengths to get such a grand and spectacular venue to introduce us into our sophomore year.” “I think it’s really special that Penn was able to do this for us because it’s a really unique and unusual place,” says Hudson Vance (C '24). Plus, it proved a great conversation starter for sophomores as we finally started to get acquainted with one another. The space’s grand ceilings and Greek revival architecture elicited oohhs and aahhs from the guests. The Philadelphia Museum of Art, which Penn rented out in its entirety, made for a special and memorable gala venue because of its scale and landmark status.Īfter four years of construction spearheaded by Frank Gehry, the museum fully reopened in May-making it an even more apt location for the sophomore class to gather at the start of the year. It was a celebration of togetherness for the Class of 2024, marking the first time all of us have been together in one place. In the historic Philadelphia Museum of Art, second–year Penn students schmoozed and chit chatted, ushering in what will hopefully be a more community–driven year at Penn. Just days after move–in, bright–eyed sophomores took buses up to Fairmount Hill to enjoy art, refreshments, and each other’s company.

There is however picnic tables around the building and a nice setting to enjoy lunch. The eating area inside is very small and in the middle of the store. We had a terrific lunch at the deli counter, a freshly made italian, veggie type of sandwich. We actually did not see the butterfly pavilion. In addition to a great nursery, and outside furniture display, There is a very nice farmers market, bakery, candy counter, specialty foods, gift shop etc. If you're ernest admirer of "mildred pierce", you might like "flamingo road" which is composed of all the right ingredients rehashed in the same winsome formula for box-office attraction, but at least it's well-fabricated with talented director, a capable cast, and of course, a charismatic star, joan crawford. This is actually a commercial nursery business with a lot going on. as for sydney greenstreet, he's always good without backfire when he's in the shoes of banality and corruption since his success of "the maltese falcon" scott gets disposed after the movie runs two out of the thirds, and his character even dies in the same way as mildred pierce with his face downward instead of the upward position. deprived of male glamour, scott is just another typecasting for spineless romanticist who loves but not courageous enough to fight for the dame. Zachary scott made his career highlight in "mildred pierce" as crawford's incestous kept-man with full gears of suave elegance. curtiz even arranges an insolent juicy jazz tone "if i could be with you one hour tonight" accompanied along by crawford's own husky singing voice to contribute a perfect vehicle for the crawfordian saga. and the attempt here to sensualize crawford is blatant with the close-shots of her best asset, the lenghty fair legs of hers to introduce her entrance that is handy to reflect field's covet over lane. thus lane reels into the league of flamingo road to defy titus' merciless dominion, striving on her own to prevent her husband from being framed by this obsese sinister crook whose avarice has no boundary.ĭirector curtiz has his little episode to disuade joan crawford from her excessive shoulder paddings, so crawford has milo anderson for her wardrobe in "mildred pierce" and travilla for her clothes here in "flamingo road" instead of her long-term designer adrian who she has adapted since her mgm days in the 30s. not intimidated by titus' evil overpower, lane bites her lips tight for survival in lute mae's roadhouse where she bumps into another politcal tycoon dan reynolds who marries her later. unfortunately field's top boss titus(greenstreet) wants to take field as his number-one puppet to run for the congress so field's affair with lane has to be terminated at the cost of putting lane away in jail. then lane encounters a sheriff named field who likes to wear buffulo bill hat(zachary scott) when her carnival tent retreats to another town that plants the bud of their romantic chemistry. and this time crawford teams again with curtiz as well as her mildred pierce co-star zachary scott (midlred's giglo beau monte barragon) to veer her tough dame persona into the field of political drama endorsed by the villainous participation of "maltese falcon"'s sydney greenstreet.Īt this turn, crawford becomes the astray carnival dancer lane bellamy who aspires to lead a more dignified lifestyle in cozy little town in the south where flamingo road simbolizes the prestige of power and wealth. "flamingo road" is joan crawford's another cooperation with director michael curtiz who catapults crawford into the niche of academy award-winning actrress in 1945 for "mildred pierce". If you don’t use as many colors as I do in the interface, it shouldn’t bother you as much.Įxcept for a few random complaints (all about appearance, and I’ve given you the fixes for most of them), I think Scrivener die-hards will enjoy the update. The Collections area is fairly blah now, as the new interface allows for less customization in there. I do miss the rounded edges of Scrivener 1.9.9 in the binder, but the square shapes allow for more view of the binder. So I’m assuming PC users will have to wait three or four years to get it in version 4.0Īll in all, I’m excited about the public release of Scrivener 3.0. It would be nice, but I’m in what probably is the final Beta of 3.0, and no sign of it yet. This would be especially great, as now you can concentrate on going through and finding all the verbs in one of your edit stages, and editing them. The other parts of speech gray out, leaving only the chosen words. Scrivener for the Mac has identifiers that show you how many adverbs you have, or adjectives. What don’t we get? The parts of speech identifiers. You’ll understand this more once you get it and are playing with it. You can also “Copy formatting” and “paste formatting” if you have a specific format you want your text in for only a few chapters. Scrivener changes its formatting in 3.0, but if you don’t want to spend time customizing your formatting, once you import one of your old Scrivener projects, it will allow you to copy the formatting and set as default. You couldn’t do that in 1.9.9.0, but you can in 3.0.Ī VERY handy feature is the ability to copy formatting. I want to be able to choose my word count, the deadline it has to be done by, show me how many words per day. We want the same deadline abilities that Mac users have. The biggest change is of course the deadline features PC users have asked. That will give you the old familiar cork board back. “Show text lines” I have checked, as well as “show shadows”. My choices on the display are corners>square, label indicator>corner mark, cork board background>cork board pattern. Personally, since almost every Scrivener user is going to put it back, I think they should leave it as a default and let people choose. File>Options>Appearance>Cork board lets you put it back. The cork board disappears in Scrivener 3.0 – it’s still there, just not displayed as a cork board. Scrivener 3.0 has different names for the options, “show as background color in binder.” Because it creates more of a wash effect, I don’t choose to color the icons any more. I choose by default “binder”, “icons” and “index cards”. I go immediately to the view command in the task bar and “use label color in”. Hopefully, you learned how to modify your working environment in Scrivener! I personally like a slightly more colorful environment. The icons are smaller, and the task bars take up less screen real estate. It’s actually a very comfortable working environment. The chapter folders are round, the scenes are round. In Scrivener 1.9.9.0, everything is so round. The thing I noticed about Scrivener 3.0 is… the angles. I’ve been using the beta versions to get used it, and so far I’ve been giving feedback on the beta version. Mac users are in their second year of Scrivener 3.0, and of course Windows users are still waiting. Windows versions always seem to be missing the cool features that the Mac version has. One of the benefits to having a mac is of course you can have Scrivener in all its glory. It’s odd how the interface in Mac is so sterile, so blah – and people line up to buy them. Subsequent Chicago parades have been held on the last Sunday of June, coinciding with the date of many similar parades elsewhere. The date was chosen because the Stonewall events began on the last Saturday of June and because organizers wanted to reach the maximum number of Michigan Avenue shoppers. On Saturday, June 27, 1970, Chicago Gay Liberation organized a march from Washington Square Park ("Bughouse Square") to the Water Tower at the intersection of Michigan and Chicago avenues, which was the route originally planned, and then many of the participants spontaneously marched on to the Civic Center (now Richard J. The Stonewall Inn was a gay bar which catered to an assortment of patrons, but which was popular with the most marginalized people in the gay community: transvestites, transgender people, effeminate young men, hustlers, and homeless youth. Early on the morning of Saturday, June 28, 1969, LGBTQ people rioted following a police raid on the Stonewall Inn in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Lower Manhattan, New York City. All of these groups held protests at the United Nations and the White House, in 1965. Mattachine members were also involved in demonstrations in support of homosexuals imprisoned in Cuban labor camps. In 1965, the gay rights protest movement was visible at the Annual Reminder pickets, organized by members of the lesbian group Daughters of Bilitis, and the gay men's group Mattachine Society. See also: Annual Reminder, Stonewall riots, and LGBT pride In 2019, New York and the world celebrated the largest international Pride celebration in history: Stonewall 50 - WorldPride NYC 2019, produced by Heritage of Pride commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, with five million attending in Manhattan alone. The events became annual and grew internationally. In 1970, pride and protest marches were held in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, and San Francisco around the first anniversary of Stonewall. The parades seek to create community and honor the history of the movement. Most occur annually throughout the Western world, while some take place every June to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall riots in New York City, a pivotal moment in modern LGBT social movements. The events sometimes also serve as demonstrations for legal rights such as same-sex marriage. The annual NYC Pride March, the world's largest LGBT eventĪ pride parade (also known as pride event, pride festival, pride march, or pride protest) is an event celebrating lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) social and self-acceptance, achievements, legal rights, and pride. I loved the Infinite campaign as well, the best one since reach in my opinion. in the end, we are all halo fans and I'm super glad to be a part of the community. I hope you get the point I'm trying to make.Īnyway, hopefully, you agree with me on some points. I don't think any multiplayer weapons were like these. I don't even think I've gotten a kill with that thing yet, the ravager is kinda eh but the burn takes too long so I just end up dying anyway. the pulse carbine is impossible to hit proper shots with, the hydra honestly. while this is happening in infinite, I'm dropping triple kills in reach and halo 3 because the TTK balances with the flow of gameplay.Īnother aspect of the gameplay is that most of the guns in multiplayer feel useless. it takes too long to kill someone when 2 people are attacking you so you have a low chance, if at all to, trade a kill. The TTK becomes a problem in infinite because I could be landing every shot, but since the movement of gameplay is so quick someone is already shooting me from behind. I wouldn't mind the TTK if it wasn't for the flow of a match, which is, while the time to kill is slow like in halo 3, the overall function and flow of a match in infinite is fast, energetic, and chaotic like in halo 4 and reach. The TTK in infinite is slower than those of previous games, or at least it feels like it. When it comes to Infinite I love the multiplayer but it just feels like a luck game rather than skill. halo 3 is simple, reach is a lot more complicated with insane customization, and halo 4 is quicker and faster-paced combat. I say this because when you think of it, halo 3, reach, and 4 (the games that are most played in MCC) all have different playstyles. the gameplay in halo MCC is much more diverse and fresh than infinite, even for being a collection of older games. This is where I think I will get the most controversial but again this is how I feel :). it's not only unrewarding to me but also an inconvenience to constantly buy the things I want. I think a lot of people agree with me on this when I say I would rather pay 60 dollars for a polished and finished game than have a f2p game that has a primary unique factor locked behind a paywall. and I don't think it a great idea to have different armor as bases and then lock the coolest pieces of the armor in the shop. as opposed to in Infinite where the Hazop set was literally in the shop for 20 dollars when it's free in reach. we also could unlock pieces by playing we felt that we achieved the armor we got in the MCC. because we could make our spartan look however we wanted and they were ultimately us. For me, customization has been a huge motivating factor and what made halo 3, reach, and 4 feel so personal. This brings me to my next point which is customization. in Halo MCC, this system not only seems much more refined and incentive but it also gives you almost a Halo Reach-like system of progression where you can buy a handful of items in the battle pass once you level and unlock points. I once dropped a 30 bomb in slayer and didn't even move up a tier from 4. I think it's clear that the majority of the halo player base doesn't like the rewards system. Starting with the rewards and progression system. I know that infinite just came out only recently so my opinions might change as the game itself does too but right now this is how I feel and maybe some of you guys do too. I recently beat the LASO for halo CE and beat Infinite on Heroic for the first time just for some insight so I played both multiplayer recently as well. in my opinion, like a halo veteran who has been playing since halo 2, Halo Master Chief Collection's multiplayer is far better than Halo Infinite.
